ABOUT THE BLACK CULTURE COLLECTIVE

The Black Culture Collective has been set up to;

  • Create, deliver and commission high quality and enriching arts and culture workshops, programmes and events by the community, for the community which offer the benefit of education, entertainment, enterprise and empowerment.

The Black Culture Collective are passionate about hosting events and facilitating spaces within the community where the vibrant histories, cultures and traditions of African and Caribbean heritage people can be showcased to celebrate creativity and diversity to a wider audience.

As a collective the group comes together to create and commission unique projects and events shaped by the community in which it is rooted, to share information, provide education, give entertainment, promote enterprise and empower participants to have cultural pride. The Black Culture Collective plays an important part in building community cohesion and shaping the future cultural life of Thamesmead and the surrounding areas.

  • Build a community where the Black Culture Collective members can network, share resources, and have access to capacity building workshops and training.

The Black Culture Collective provides an active network for community groups, organisations, charities, businesses,        professionals, artists and creatives from within the Royal Borough Greenwich and London Borough of Bexley who run participatory arts and culture projects.

Through forums, workshops, training, masterclasses and networking events, the Black Culture Collective works to support the growth and development of its members.

  • Address the disparity in the distribution of funding within the arts and culture sector by working with commissioners to allocate funding to members within the sector who are often underfunded or underrepresented.

In an aim to create parity in funding for Black artists, creatives and Black led community groups, charities and organisations within the local arts and culture sector, the Black Culture Collective partners with commissioners to offer funding and grant opportunities to local community groups, organisations and creatives wishing to deliver arts, history and culture themed participatory events to the community.

The Black Culture Collective provides cultural benefit for all by creating, delivering and commissioning high quality enriching arts and culture workshops, programmes and events for the community delivered by the community.

Made up of a group of artists, creatives and leaders from within several local African and Caribbean heritage led community and voluntary groups, organisations, businesses and charities based within the boroughs of Greenwich and Bexley, the Black Culture Collective works to actively engage a wide sector of the community in arts and culture.

Current opportunities to be funded by the Black Culture Collective.
